Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has continued its expansion in Australia with the appointment of partner James Stewart and special counsel Roger Hawkins to our corporate team.
James is a leading M&A and equity capital markets lawyer, with a focus on public company takeovers, private M&A deals and private equity. He has extensive experience acting on complex cross-border transactions across Asia Pacific. His experience has seen him appointed to the Australian government’s Takeovers Panel.
Roger’s practice focuses on cross-border and domestic public and private company M&A, private equity, equity capital markets and corporate advisory. He has significant experience in cross-border transactions in Asia Pacific and works across a number of industry sectors, with a particular focus on the energy and natural resources sectors.
James will be based in Sydney, while Roger will be based in Perth. Both join us from DLA Piper.
Partner and Head of Australia Matthew Croagh welcomed James and Roger to the firm.
‘James and Roger are significant appointments to our corporate team in Australia as they add a wealth of experience and policy knowledge that will be of great interest to our clients,’ Matthew said.
‘James is our ninth lateral partner hire in Australia since August 2023. Those appointments have been strategic in broadening our experience in key legal areas so that we are a true full-service law firm.’
These lateral appointments include Technology, Media and Telecommunications partners James Arnott and Veronica Scott and a team of six lawyers in March 2024 and the appointment of work health and safety partner Carlie Holt and a team of two lawyers in Sydney in February 2024.
Head of Corporate in Asia Pacific, Nicholas Hanna, said the two appointments signaled further investment in the firm’s corporate capabilities across Asia Pacific.
‘James and Roger join David Clinch in Singapore as important senior appointments to the corporate team in the region this year,’ Nicholas said.
‘Like David, James and Roger bring fantastic experience working on extremely complex deals across the region. In an increasingly interconnected business landscape, adding cross-border experience is vital to servicing our globally focused client base.’
