Willie specialises in health and safety investigations, the preparation of defences of companies prosecuted for breaches of health and safety legislation and the conduct of fatal accident inquiries. He also advises on white-collar investigations into bribery and corruption, fraud, money laundering, sanctions and export controls.
His main area of interest is the offshore oil and gas industry and he has acted on behalf of both operators and service companies in contentious and non-contentious matters.
Willie advises clients in connection with the defence of prosecutions, appeals against enforcement notices, as well as conducting the advocacy for hearings, including fatal accident inquiries. He also conducts general commercial litigation for clients, including debt recovery, contractual disputes and recovery of possession of properties on behalf of landlords.
Willie is a member of the Health and Safety Lawyers' Association and of the Institute of Risk Management and he regularly provides in-house training for clients and organisations. And, he also provides advice to companies across a number of industries in connection with the Bribery Act 2010, in particular preparing policies and procedures for companies, as well as giving training in the requirements of the Act to board members and senior management. He has conducted a number of investigations into allegations of fraud and corrupt practices and advised clients on their reporting obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
