International law firm Pinsent Masons will host an exhibition of sculptural work curated by its fourth Artist in Residence, Nick Hornby.

The exhibition will be on display in the firm's London headquarters from 12th January 2019 – 22nd February 2019 and is open for public viewing.

In this exhibition, Hornby brings together late Modern sculpture alongside contemporary artists’ work to highlight the continuation of conversations between form and concept, and between figuration and abstraction, often associated with Modernism.

The exhibition features work by key Modernist sculptors: Arthur Fleischmann (1896 – 1990), Henry Moore (1898 – 1986), and Eduardo Paolozzi (1924 – 2005) alongside that of contemporary artists Oliver Beer, Nick Hornby, Alex Massouras and Zuza Mengham.

The exhibition will mark the end of Nick Hornby's residence at Pinsent Masons, which commenced in February 2018. During his residency Nick has facilitated visits to his studio, the sculpture foundry Bronzeage, and a tour of the current Sculpture in the City from the critical perspective of a sculptor. He has installed various sculptural interventions on site at Pinsent Masons Crown Place office as well as a number of regular placements of large scale sculpture.

David Isaac, Partner and Head of Pinsent Masons' Art Committee says:

"Nick Hornby's residency at Pinsent Masons has been hugely successful and has engaged all our staff and clients. His beautiful sculptures have been sited throughout our office and have drawn widespread interest and admiration.  Nick's frequent visits to the office, his enthusiasm to engage with staff and openness to share his knowledge have led to real enthusiasm for Nick's work as well as sculpture in general.  His energy and willingness to share his knowledge and insights have really been appreciated by all those who have been on his tours and studio visits.  We have all learnt from working with Nick and have also had a lot of fun along the way. The final exhibition is an impressive culmination to a year of working with Nick and brings together an impressive group of both established and contemporary artists.  We are delighted to have these wonderful works in our office for everyone who works or visits Crown Place to enjoy. Thank you, Nick."

Nick Hornby comments on his experience as Artist in Residence:

"It has been a great pleasure to engage with Pinsent Masons and their curator Maggie O’Regan.  In the last 12 months I have discovered many commonalities between art and law – each have their own unique and strange vocabularies and both require acute observation and an incredible attention to detail.  A skilful cross-examination spirals around concentric nodes before reaching a precise end… this is perhaps quite similar to how a sculptor triangulates his ideas across a material, a subject and a concept.  It has been very humbling to spend so much time with this down to earth, but brilliant community.”

Maggie O Regan, Director of InSitu adds:

"If I was to describe what has been unique about Nick Hornby’s residency over the year, it is that he has enabled Pinsent Masons to step inside his world or at least imagine what it is like to function as an artist, specifically a sculptor. Each residency at Pinsent Masons provides engagement and creative exchange between artist and client that varies depending on the artist’s chosen medium. Nick has been a pleasure to collaborate with and I have no doubt he enriched the environment for Pinsent Masons on both a collective and individual basis.’’
