Pinsent Masons' fourth Artist in Residence, Nick Hornby, concludes his residency by curating final exhibition: Abstract vs Figure 1952 - 2019

The exhibition will be on display in the firm's London headquarters from 12th January 2019 – 22nd February 2019 and is open for public viewing.

In this exhibition, Hornby brings together late Modern sculpture alongside contemporary artists’ work to highlight the continuation of conversations between form and concept, and between figuration and abstraction, often associated with Modernism.

The exhibition features work by key Modernist sculptors: Arthur Fleischmann (1896 – 1990), Henry Moore (1898 – 1986), and Eduardo Paolozzi (1924 – 2005) alongside that of contemporary artists Oliver Beer, Nick Hornby, Alex Massouras and Zuza Mengham.

The exhibition will mark the end of Nick Hornby's residence at Pinsent Masons, which commenced in February 2018. During his residency Nick has facilitated visits to his studio, the sculpture foundry Bronzeage, and a tour of the current Sculpture in the City from the critical perspective of a sculptor. He has installed various sculptural interventions on site at Pinsent Masons Crown Place office as well as a number of regular placements of large scale sculpture.

"It has been a great pleasure to engage with Pinsent Masons and their curator Maggie O’Regan.  In the last 12 months I have discovered many commonalities between art and law – each have their own unique and strange vocabularies and both require acute observation and an incredible attention to detail.  A skilful cross-examination spirals around concentric nodes before reaching a precise end… this is perhaps quite similar to how a sculptor triangulates his ideas across a material, a subject and a concept.  It has been very humbling to spend so much time with this down to earth, but brilliant community.”
