We spoke to Fraser King, a future trainee and current paralegal in our Leeds office on how he found navigating the online blended assessment and shares some helpful tips:

What should I keep in mind when completing the online blended assessment?

When embarking on your online blended assessment, it's crucial to answer the questions carefully and be as honest as possible. Our recruitment process is designed to highlight potential so it’s important to keep authenticity. Your responses should reflect your personal behaviours and how you would best react in certain scenarios.

What’s the best approach for completing the online blended assessment?

Completing the online blended assessment in one sitting can greatly enhance your focus and minimise distractions. I found that dedicating the necessary time without interruptions allowed me to provide the best answers. The assessment is structured into distinct parts, allowing for short breaks when prompted. Don’t hesitate to take those breaks! A quick cup of tea can rejuvenate your mind and help you concentrate better.

How can I prepare for the video questions?

Preparation is key! I suggest delving into the sectors that Pinsent Masons operates in. Reflect on what excites you about these areas and how they differ from other firms. This insight will not only help you answer the video questions but also demonstrate your genuine interest in the firm. Additionally, exploring resources like the Legal 500 and other legal news websites can keep you informed about significant cases the firm is handling. Consider what intrigues you about these matters and potential challenges they might face.

You can take as much time as you need to prepare for your video responses however once you start recording you will have a maximum of 2 minutes to record your response.

Should I bring anything to the online blended assessment?

Yes, I recommend having a notepad and a pen handy during the assessment. This allows you to jot down any notes or thoughts that arise while answering the questions. Keeping your ideas organised will help you articulate your responses more effectively. A calculator will also be good to have on-hand for some of the numerical questions.

I’m worried about completing this online, is the technology easy to navigate?

Absolutely! The technology used for the online blended assessment is very user-friendly. The instructions is set out from the very beginning and is easy to follow. The platform will also allow you to test your webcam and microphone beforehand to ensure that you’re comfortable with your setup, allowing you to focus on delivering your best performance.

Hopefully you will encounter no technical issues whilst completing the online blended assessment, however if you do please contact our early talent team who will be happy to help.

Can I complete any practice questions before I start?

To further aid your preparation, be sure to check out the practice questions for the online blended assessment. This can provide valuable insights and help you feel more confident before you start.

With these tips from Fraser, we hope you are now better equipped to tackle the online blended assessment. Embrace the opportunity, and best of luck!
