The publisher of the Manchester Evening News was last week fined £30,000 and ordered to pay costs of £120,000 for contempt of court.

Greater Manchester Newspapers Ltd had published information both in its newspaper and on its web site Manchester Online which could have led to the location of the two killers of the toddler Jamie Bulger, in breach of a worldwide court injunction.

The publication by took place on 22nd June, the day on which the killers of Jamie Bulger were released. In January, the English High Court had issued an injunction banning the publication of any information or pictures which could lead to the identification of the Bulger killers.
