Developer Ardmore has been appointed to build the first phase of a Kensington regeneration scheme estimated to be worth around £60 million by housing association Catalyst Housing.

The first phase of the scheme includes the redevelopment of Portobello square to provide 324 new homes on the Wornington Green estate, Kensington. Work is due to start in January 2012.

Under the contract, Ardmore has agreed to provide 324 mixed tenure homes. Of those, 141 are planned to be available for private sale, while 174 will be affordable homes and 9 will be shared ownership units. The scheme also includes for the re-provision of a public park and retail units.

" Ardmore has been chosen for its experience and expertise in building high quality mixed tenure regeneration schemes in London," said said Griff Marshalsay, director of the Wormington Green Estate owner Catalyst by Design.

Catalyst currently has planning permission for up to 1,000 new homes and plans to undertake a full redevelopment of the Wornington Green Estate, which it owns and manages, over a number of phases. The master project plan includes new streets, a new park, shops, business space and community facilities.

“We are delighted with this news and the entire project team is looking forward to working with Catalyst on this unique and prestigious contract,” said James Byrne, Ardmore's Director.

The Wornington Green Estate is situated at the northern end of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, bounded by Portobello Road to the West, the main Paddington/West Country railway line to the North and Golborne Road to the South.

The first homes are expected to be ready for occupation in 2013.
