Argent joint venture to be recommended as development partner for 7,500-home Brent Cross South scheme

A joint-venture between developers Argent and Related Companies has been selected as Barnet Council's preferred development partner for the Brent Cross South regeneration scheme in north London.

The Council granted planning permission last summer for an amended masterplan for the comprehensive mixed-use redevelopment of the Brent Cross Cricklewood Regeneration Area. A shortlist of four potential development partners was announced last autumn for the 78-hectare Brent Cross South section of the Regeneration Area, for which a new neighbourhood with 7,500 homes is planned.

According to a statement from the Council this week, Argent and Related will be recommended to the Council's key regeneration committee as the long-term development partner for Brent Cross South, with a final decision expected on 3 March.

Brent Cross Shopping Centre is located in the northern part of the Regeneration Area and is to be redeveloped separately by Hammerson and Standard Life.

Leader of the Council Richard Cornelius said, in a statement: "We are looking for a long-term partner to work with the Council to create a thriving town centre, making the most of the transformed shopping centre and getting the best deal for local residents."

"We had four excellent proposals from a mix of UK and international teams," said Cornelius.  "What shone through in the proposal from Argent Related was that they had a long term vision for Brent Cross South, had clear views on how that vision would be supported over time and knew how to make the best of a transformed shopping centre."

“They have already shown with their schemes at [London's] Kings Cross and Brindleyplace [in Birmingham] that they can produce great places that generate jobs and support high quality homes. The character of Brent Cross South will obviously be very different but Argent Related have shown how they will work with the Council to create something that will bring lasting benefits for generations of Barnet residents to come," Cornelius said.
