Brent gives green light for Wembley Park eco-homes scheme

The London Borough of Brent has granted planning permission  (11-page / 182KB PDF) to housing provider Network Housing Group (NHG) for a 111-home development at Brook Avenue in north west London's Wembley Park.

The scheme will see the construction of four residential blocks to comprise 109 flats as well as two semi-detached family houses on the 0.92 hectare former car park site. Half of the new homes will be affordable.

NHG said in a statement that the development will also have a "nature-friendly" woodland area for residents and will be designed to incorporate large spaces between buildings.

34 of the new homes will be delivered with support from part of £8.25 million of funding which the housing provider received earlier this year under the Mayor of London's Housing Covenant Scheme. The funding will be used to deliver 240 affordable homes across six schemes.

"Brent has an overwhelming need for new affordable homes so I'm delighted that we have been given the go ahead to push forward with this development on Brook Avenue," said NHG business development director Jeremy Stibbe. "The homes are well-designed and sustainable and will make a very positive contribution to the regeneration of the Wembley Park area."

"I'm delighted that building work is starting on these high-quality new homes in Wembley," said the Council's lead member for housing Margaret McLennan. "Affordable housing is a top priority for many of our residents and Brent Council because of the shortage of affordable housing in the borough and the high demand for housing across London at the moment."

"Not only will they provide new homes for our residents and much-need family-sized homes but the development will contribute to Wembley's regeneration and renaissance as a great place to live," she said.

Network Housing Group said that work on the scheme will start this summer.
