China State Construction Engineering Corporation Middle East (CSCEC ME) has won contracts for R1086 Dubai Hills Estate Mall Access and Umm Suqeim Street Upgrading. The contracts are worth $217 million (AED800m).

The Civil & Infrastructure Division of CSCEC ME was awarded the contracts from Dubai's Road and Transportation Authority (RTA), which awarded Phase 5 and 6 contacts for road upgrades for Expo 2020 Dubai, for R1086 Dubai Hills Estate Mall Access and Umm Suqeim Street Upgrading project.

Dubai-headquartered CSCEC is one of the largest construction groups in the Middle East.

The project is located along existing Al Khail Road E44 principally between the interchanges of Umm Suqeim and Al Marabea Street. According to the contacts, the contractor will build elevated highways, viaducts, and ramps to improve traffic flow between the Umm Suqeim and Al Khail roads, as well as Dubai Hills Mall.

Litigation expert Mark Raymont of Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind Outlaw.com, said: "This AED800m project is a further piece in the wider jigsaw representing the infrastructure development required for Expo Dubai 2020. The 438-hectare area main site is located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi cities and will have a surrounding residential, hospitality and logistics zone of which the R1086 Dubai Hill road upgrade contract will form part."

"CSCEC ME has been closely associated with the construction activities linked to Expo as has been illustrated in its success in winning this project," said Raymont.
