Internet giant Google has submitted a reserved matters planning application to Camden Council for its 1 million square feet head quarters scheme in north London's King's Cross.

The building, which will range from seven to 11 storeys in height, will include 725,000 sq ft of office space as well as 50,000 sq ft of shops at ground floor level. The site is located immediately to the north of the new concourse at King’s Cross station and sits to the east of King’s Boulevard and south of the Regent’s Canal.

The scheme is expected to create 1,500 construction jobs. Once completed, around 4,500 Google employees will be working in the building, with staff relocating from current offices in Victoria and Holborn.

"Building our new headquarters in King’s Cross is good for Google and good for London," said Google UK's managing director Dan Cobley in a statement. "We’re committed to the UK and to playing a role in the regeneration of this historic area."

Subject to planning consent, work on the site is expected to start early next year and to complete in late 2016.
