Hackney approves 400 east London regeneration homes

The London Borough of Hackney has approved regeneration plans at Bridge House and Marian Court to create 194 new homes and at Colville Estate to provide 209 homes.

The approved plans (47-page / 319KB PDF)  for Bridge House and Marian Court include the demolition of the existing buildings on the site, which currently provide 135 homes, and the creation of a new six storey building which will provide 194 homes, a community centre and shops. The new homes will include homes for social rent and shared ownership.

The project is part of the Council's Six Estates regeneration programme, which is co-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency. Under the programme, 73 new social renting homes have already been created at Ottaway Court and Rendlesham House. A further 107 new homes at the former Alexandra National House are nearing completion.

The Council has also approved the second phase plans (32-page / 246KB PDF) for the Colville Estate, which will provide 113 homes for social renting, 34 for shared ownership and 62 for private sale. The new development will have a community centre and shops.

The Council approved the masterplan for the Colville Estate regeneration in July 2011. The full plan includes the demolition of over 400 homes to provide 935 new homes for social renting, shared ownership and private sale.

Current residents in all the buildings will be re-housed locally until the developments are complete. The Council is looking for development partners for both projects.

“This is good news and another step forward for the Council’s pledge to provide modern homes and community facilities for residents," said Deputy Mayor of Hackney, Karen Alcock. "I would also like to thank the residents of the Six Estates Steering Group, and the Colville Estate Tenants and Residents Association for helping make the regeneration of where they live possible.”
