Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has said that it wants to extend its 2,000km network of toll roads to 5,000km in 2024.
PUPR minister Basuki Hadimuljono said 406km including 19 toll roads will be completed in 2021. Seven sections spanning 52km including the 14.2km Cengkareng – Batu Ceper – Kunciran Toll Road have become operational.
He said the “construction must be linked to the development of productive areas, such as industrial areas” and the Trans Java Toll Road was built to support the connectivity of industrial estates (KI) in Java.
In the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024, the infrastructure development agenda aims to develop basic service infrastructure focused on transportation safety and security. 2500km new and operational toll roads are going to be built under the plan.
A local report said Indonesia built up 2346km toll roads in 2020 while the number was 2088km in 2019. Indonesian president Joko Widodo approved the plan to spend $70 billion on toll roads connecting Indonesia to other countries in 2019.
The country's Java integrated industrial and port estate (JIIPE) Gresik special economic zone (SEZ) is reported to have potential to attract $17 billion in investment from domestic and foreign investors.
