Hospitality group Edwardian Group has submitted a planning application to Westminster Council for a new hotel and Odeon cinema in Leicester Square in London's West End.

The proposals include the demolition of the existing cinema building and the construction of a new ten storey block with five basement levels to comprise a 360-bedroom hotel and a two-screen cinema. The new building is planned to work as a series of independent but connected venues as well as operating as a single entity for hosting major film premieres.

Edwardian Group's agent Jones Lang LaSalle said in a statement that the design rationale behind the scheme was to create a building which "captures the magic of the movies". "This scheme will reinforce Leicester Square's identity as being at the heart of the film industry as well as a major tourist hub," said planning and development director Guy Bransby.

“We have been committed to establishing upscale hotels in London for decades and as we work alongside Arup and Woods Bagot Architects on this application, we hope to continue that heritage," said Edwardian Group London commercial development director Iype Abraham. "We believe the design of this hotel showcases our passion for the city and it will add to the continued regeneration of Leicester Square."
