The proposed garden suburb would be developed across 350 acres of land and would include commercial space, shops, community and leisure facilities and open spaces. Golding Homes have submitted the plans in response to the Council's call for sites for development under its Core Strategy.
Golding Homes said in a summary document (20-page / 1.15MB PDF) that the proposed scheme would provide "a large part of the residential and employment supply needed for the future growth of the town" and would "enable transport improvements which would benefit the whole of Maidstone".
“A new settlement of this scale could bring a powerful boost to the local economy and create jobs for local people," said Golding Homes director of development and regeneration, Chris Blundell, in a statement.
"It has the potential to provide a large part of the residential and employment supply needed for the further growth of the town and would enable transport improvements which would benefit the whole of Maidstone," he added.
"This is a unique opportunity to develop a vibrant new community that both reflects and respects its environment and creates a special place where people choose to live and work. This is just the first stage of a long process which will involve a full programme of consultation with local residents and stakeholders,” Blundell said.
