Mayor of London in Old Oak Common development corporation talks

The area around the planned Old Oak Common railway station in west London could become a mayoral development corporation (MDC), deputy Mayor Sir Edward Lister has said according to a report in Planning Magazine .

The deputy Mayor said during a property conference in France that plans to create a special delivery vehicle for Old Oak Common was being "actively discussed" with the councils of Kensington and Chelsea, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham and Brent, which are the four boroughs the area falls into.

Lister said that the area would also need to be granted enterprise zone status to ensure it could collect business rates to be used towards infrastructure funding.

The planned station at Old Oak Common, which will be constructed at the site of an old railway depot, will provide a major transport interchange between the new Crossrail line and the High Speed 2 Line.

The development corporation plans follow the launch last year of the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), which covers the area in and around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London. The LLDC was the first MDC created under powers introduced by the Localism Act 2011.
