The 4.6 acre site is owned by Barratt Homes, Taylor Wimpey and the London Development Agency and the last phase would see the completion of 780 new homes, including 35% which are planned to be made available for affordable housing.
The last phase includes proposals for 192,000 square feet of residential space, including 193 flats. Other proposals include up to 4,250 square feet of commercial space and a 1,550 sq ft crѐche.
Waterside Park is the third Barratt development in this location next to Barrier Park, the Docklands Light Railway and Silvertown. Transport links could be improved with the proposed introduction of the new cross-river cable car in 2018.
The developers have worked with the Council to ally fears they had about the design, layout and landscaping of the scheme. At the committee meeting, the Council approved the scheme and said its concerns had been addressed.
The Barrier Park East scheme, located in Newham’s Royal Docks, was first given outline planning approval in December 2009. The whole scheme is due to be completed by March 2016.
