Proposals for £20m Slough town centre housing scheme given approval

Slough Borough Council's planning committee has resolved to grant planning permission to developer Salmon Harvester Properties for a 120-home development in Slough town centre.

The developer, which is a joint venture between Salmon Developments and NFU Mutual, will build the homes on the site of a vacant office building at Stoke Road near Slough's town centre and its mainline railway station. The homes will comprise a mix of studios, one and two-bedroom homes.

Salmon Developments said in a statement when it submitted the planning application for the scheme in August that it would develop the project for the private rented sector rather than selling to owner-occupiers.

“We expect strong interest in this development, given the well documented regional housing shortage and the site’s excellent connectivity," said Salmon Developments director Philip Skottowe in a statement. "We may yet develop for the owner occupier market although entering the private rented sector market is also one of the options we are considering.”

Salmon said it expects the new homes to be available for occupation in the autumn 2014.
