Developer Hammerson has submitted an outline planning application to Southampton City Council for a 55,000 square metre mixed use development to include a residential tower in Southampton town centre.

The proposed scheme, which has been dubbed Watermark WestQuay, will be delivered on a four hectare development site adjacent to Hammerson's jointly owned WestQuay Shopping Centre.

The masterplan for the proposed scheme will be delivered in two phases. The first phase will comprise a cinema building, up to 15 restaurants as well as shops and new public space.

The second phase will comprise a residential tower, a hotel, offices, restaurants and further public space.

“Watermark WestQuay will significantly improve the town’s leisure offer and night time economy," said Hammerson development manager Guy Wells. "We have been greatly encouraged by operators’ initial response to the scheme and hope we will be able to secure planning permission this year.”
