Stockport housing scheme to get funding from Get Britain Building programme

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has confirmed that a housing and regeneration development in Stockport is in line to receive funding from the Government's £420 million Get Britain Building programme.

The 41-home second phase of development at Hopes Carr, part of the Covent Garden Village regeneration programme, has been earmarked by the HCA to move to the next stage of the assessment process. That stage will determine whether funding is released to unlock the delivery of commissioned schemes which it views are of high importance.

Hopes Carr is the start of Stockport’s new Covent Garden Village, a mixed-tenure residential-led development that is planned to deliver 250 new homes, new shops and a park.

Developer Seddon and Stockport Council are working in partnership to create the new neighbourhood. Hopes Carr is one of 18 schemes the Government has identified to potentially receive funding under the £420 million Get Britain Building programme.

The HCA plans to invest in the scheme to allow building on the next phase of the development to start. The funding is subject to due diligence and contracting, the HCA said.

Construction of the first phase of the development began last Autumn with a £5.7 million block of 46 new apartments for Stockport Homes. That project received investment from the HCA and Stockport Homes.

“This is encouraging news for Covent Garden Village and we are keen to see more homes being delivered and progress being made on this important local project," said Deborah McLaughlin, HCA executive director north west. "Our partners have once again demonstrated their appetite to get Britain building by developing much needed new homes. It’s really pleasing to see that Covent Garden Village is one of the first schemes to be taken forward to the next stage of the Get Britain Building programme.”
