Wandsworth Council grants planning permission for Lombard Wharf

Wandsworth Council has granted planning permission to developer Barratt London for a new residential led tower, known as Lombard Wharf.

The site is located along the River Thames at 12-14 Lombard Road in Battersea and is one of the last remaining riverfront sites in the London borough of Wandsworth.

The new development will see the construction of a 28 storey tower and deliver 135 new homes. These will be a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and 20% of the units will be allocated to affordable housing.

In addition to affordable housing, £1.6 million is also being allocated to improving the local infrastructure.

Lombard Wharf will also include commercial and retail space, restaurants, a gym for residents, cycle parking and 30 car parking spaces.

The development will also include a new public landscaped plaza at the base of the tower which will create a landing point for the proposed Diamond Jubilee footbridge, linking Battersea with Chelsea Harbour.

Regional managing director of Barratt London, Alastair Baird said "Lombard Wharf is one of the last remaining plots on the Thames and we are looking forward to regenerating this brownfield site, which has been vacant since 2012 and currently restricts pedestrian access along the river".

Planning expert Susanne Andreasen of Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind Out-Law.com, said: "The Council has published draft policies proposing to designate a focal point in the Lombard Road area of Battersea and the site is a key part of the recently designated Mayoral Housing Zone which includes extensive plans for regeneration of the area between Clapham Junction and Battersea Riverside."

"The positive decision by Wandsworth Council allows the developers to go ahead with a scheme which will no doubt become a prominent feature on the London skyline," she said.
