A country singer who was paid $590 to yodel for a Yahoo! advert is suing the company for $5 million for using the recording in multiple television and radio ads, according to a report by news agency Reuters.

Wylie Gustafson, the star of Wylie & The Wild West, argues that he was paid on the basis that his vocal would be used only for a one-off advert. In fact, it has been used in thousands of subsequent adverts.

Reuters reports that Gustafson has been fighting the company for compensation for over three years – and has now taken the matter to court.

Western Horseman magazine wrote in a review of Wylie’s last album:

"He's not just one of the best two or three yodelers breathing anymore, he's grown as a musician and a writer. As a bonus, the band proves that western swing is more than alive and well, it's dang near nuclear powered here."
